Wright became a television broadcaster and Head of Sport for ATV and Central Television after his transition from his management post. In 1990 Billy Wright joined the Board of Directors of Wolverhampton Wanderers as part of the takeover by Sir Jack Hayward.
Billy Wright married Joy Beverley in 1958 who was one of the Beverley Sisters; this was one of the most successful showbiz marriages. The three
members were a British female vocal group, famous during the 1950s and 1960s.
Billy Wright passed away on 3rd September 1994 aged 70 after a fight against stomach cancer. His funeral, the following week, bought‘Wolverhampton City Centre’ to a complete standstill. A statue of him was placed beside Wolves' Molineux Stadium in memory of him in 1996; after three years a stand at the stadium was named in honor of him.
